FIRE STARTER
With “Fire Starter“ the performers investigate the wish for togetherness and explore how it manifests in their bodies and in the encounter with an audience. “Fire Starter” is a half-choreographed space where the audience can decide intuitively their role, if they are witnessing, taking part or navigating between both spheres. The exercises done during the performance are a trigger to invite the audience to other entrance points on how to experience the performance. What is the circumstantial empathy of each group and how to design this togetherness beyond dance?
I'm concerned with what I want to create in this time of tension and acceleration, so I am searching for something that is close to me, to something that makes sense to me - a moment of affection. There is an urgency to develop this work now, as I feel the impulse to follow my intuition of creating a performative space of care where the audience is also involved: to create a choreographed space where spontaneous dance and caresses can co-exist and melt.
If I think that the desire to be on stage is associated with putting something in motion, then the experience that I seek in this project is the one of slowing down, of being activated from a place within, where the attention is less on the mind and more on the body. Poetics of letting go, embracing otherness and notions of touch are present in this work, which investigates different approaches on touching and being touched - physically and emotionally - whether by an image, a sound or a body.
Togetherness as a place of the “now”, where two bodies design a common space together and consequently open a political body-space without a 4th wall. The performers take the role of a caretaker, a sort of tour guide that conducts the experience during the piece. “Fire Starter” is a celebration, a piece for an audience without any experience in performance or dance.
