Choreographer and Performer

I work as choreographer, performer and dancer between Ljubljana and Berlin. My artistic practice deals with the expanded notion of corporeality, material semiotics, gaps //mistakes and confusion, ecology, imagination, (science) fiction and humor. My work focuses on the research and articulation of relevant performance expressions for the post-internet/anthropocene era.

Bio:

Jan Rozman studied contemporary dance at the Art High School in Ljubljana, studied choreography at the Amsterdam SNDO (AhK) and in 2018 received his MA at the SODA within the HZT (UdK) in Berlin. In 2016 he completed his bachelor's degree in physiotherapy at the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana (UL).

He created several author works; in the last period (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ screamage (2023), THINGS THING (2021), MEMEMEME (2019) and Thinging (2018), which have been shown in Ljubljana (Gibanica, CoFestival, Platform of Contemporary Dance), Berlin (PAF Berlin, NO LIMITS, Augenblick Mal!) and elsewhere (Théâtre de la Ville, Judson Church Theatre, Antistatic Festival, Tanzhafen, Improspekcije). Since 2014 he collaborated in different roles with Milan Tomasik, Katja Legin, Dejan Srhoj, Image Snatchers, Deborah Hay, Andrea Uerba, Julia Keren Turbahn and others. 

In recognition of his work, he received the Ksenia Hribar Award for promising choreographer by DSPS in 2019. That year he was also a recipient of the danceWEB scholarship at the Impulstanz festival in Vienna and a resident at the Mediterranean Dance Centre. In 2020, he participated in the GPS residency program of Movement Research in New York and was in residence at the FELD Theatre in Berlin together with his collaborators both in 2020 and 2021. In 2022 he was a guest artist at O Espaço do Tempo in Portugal. His solo performance Thinging won the main prize at the 10th Gibanica, Biennial of Slovenian Contemporary Dance Art in 2021. Later in 2021 the age-open work THINGS THING created in collaboration with Julia Keren Turbahn received a special jury prize for the playful critique of (un)usable plastic objects at the 11th Slovenian Puppetry Biennial and was selected as one of the five best children's productions of the last two years at the Augenblick Mal! Festival in Germany in 2023. Recently the piece also received the main prize from the children jury at the Wildwechsel Festival in Zwickau.
